Hipperholme Grammar School is an independent, co-educational school in Hipperholme (near Halifax) in West Yorkshire. Founded in 1648, it became independent in the 1980s and began admitting girls at the same time.
In Year 7, pupils study a wide range of subjects including art, design technology, English, MFL, history, ICT, mathematics, PE & games, PSHE, religious studies and science.

Open Events for Hipperholme Grammar School 11 Plus (11+) Entry
Open Evenings are held twice a year (in October and March). These include a huge array of activities, a talk from the Foundation Head, refreshments and an open Q&A with staff in the Dining Room.
Open Tour Mornings offer families a chance to see the school in action on a working day. These start with refreshments, followed by a tour of the school whilst classes are in session.
If you are unable to attend an Open Event, you can arrange a personal visit with the Admissions Team. The visit includes a meeting with the Headteacher and a tour of the school.

Hipperholme Grammar School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
Admission to Year 7 entry depends on three elements:
- Examination results
- The quality of the report from your child’s current school
- Their conduct in the interview with the Headteacher.
To register for the 11+ exam, you should complete an online form and pay a fee of £50.
A limited number of scholarships are awarded at 11+ each year to applicants who show outstanding potential and ability in the examinations or who demonstrate a particular talent. The school awards Academic scholarships on the basis of performance in the entrance examination.

The Hipperholme Grammar School 11+ entrance examination consists of the following papers:
- Non-Verbal Reasoning
The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, grammar, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper may include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
