Introduction

John Hampden Grammar School (JHGS) is a selective grammar for boys in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. Founded in 1893, it is renowned for its specialisms in Technology, Sports and Language, as well as its varied list of notable alumni. [1]

Pupils at JHGS benefit from a diverse curriculum, supported by staff’s dedicated efforts to provide comprehensive teaching. As a result, students grow in intellectual versatility while also developing personally and socially, acquiring collaborative skills alongside academic proficiency.

The extracurricular provision further enriches the educational experience, offering a diverse range of activities such as chess, philosophy, robotics, DofE, drama and African Drumming. These activities are available for all boys to join and aim to foster non-academic development, catering extensively to the changing interests of the cohort. [2]

The pastoral care system is focused on providing guidance for students in need of emotional support or physical help. The welfare of all members of JHGS’ community is safeguarded through effective and well-coordinated procedures, resulting in a nurturing environment that supports boys regardless of their background.
