Wimbledon High School 11 Plus (11+) Entrance Exam Information – Key Details

Wimbledon High School is an independent day school for girls in Wimbledon, South West London. Since its conception in 1880, it has been an active member of the GDST network of schools, educating a number of notable authors, journalists, scientists and professors. [1

The stimulating curriculum is a reflection of the school’s aims to provide top-quality teaching that will produce proactive members of society. Competitive by nature, the educational provision covers a rich range of disciplines, ensuring that girls effortlessly transition into further stages of their education.

Advocating for cross-curricular learning, Wimbledon High successfully interconnects different types of discourses into a comprehensive STEAM programme, which allows girls to maximise their capacity for critical thought. To balance the challenging education with other key aspects of pupils’ development, the school regularly organises trips to far-off destinations such as Japan, Iceland, Morocco and Spain. [2] [3]

Wimbledon High boasts a range of cutting-edge facilities, including a swimming pool, an all-weather Astro and the Rutherford Centre for the Performing Arts, a fully functioning theatre that features professional equipment for lighting and sound. Over 25 music ensembles rehearse weekly, hence the hallways frequently echo with the sounds of beautiful music, complementing the warm and nurturing learning environment Wimbledon High is known for.

Wimbledon High School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format

The Stage 1 exam at Wimbledon High School covers:

  • Verbal Reasoning
  • Non-Verbal Reasoning

The Verbal Reasoning paper is designed to test and assess logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary.

The Non-Verbal Reasoning paper measures the ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.

Please note that, due to Covid, the school could swap this paper-based exam with ISEB Common Pretest. Click here to learn more about this online assessment.

Candidates who are successful in the Stage 1 exam will be invited back to the school to attend the Stage 2 exam or Creative Assessment Day. As part of the range of activities planned for this day, your daughter’s literacy and numeracy will be tested through short English and Maths assessments.
