Introduction

 

Bournemouth Collegiate School is a co-educational independent day and boarding school in Dorset. The Senior School campus is located in the Bournemouth suburb of Southbourne.

 

The broad curriculum covers subjects such as art & design, science, computer science, drama, design technology, history, MFL, music, physical education, religious studies and sports.

Senior School Open Mornings take place throughout the year, familiarising prospective families with everything on offer through guided tours and a range of interactive activities. Bournemouth Collegiate School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions

 

Following a visit to the school, you should proceed to register your child and pay the £100 registration fee. The admissions process includes an informal interview with the Head, Taster Days and an entrance examination, typically taking place in January.

 

Taster Days are usually arranged following the registration process. Please note that, as part of the admissions procedure, a copy of your child’s most recent school report and references from their current school will be obtained.  

 

Upon successful performance in all key stages of the admissions process, your child may receive an offer, to be accepted by the deadline indicated in the offer letter. Acceptance of a place includes a payment of a deposit, refunded during your child’s last term at the school.

 

Bournemouth Collegiate School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries

 

To gifted 11+ entrants, the school offers Academic, Sports, Music, Visual Arts and Performing Arts Scholarships. Their value doesn’t normally exceed 25% of fees. More details are available on this page.

 

Financial support (in the form of bursaries) is also available. Bursaries can be valued at up to 100% of school fees. They are reviewed on annual basis and may vary in value, depending on changes in the household’s financial circumstances. To apply, please reach out to the Registrar.

 

Bournemouth Collegiate School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format

 

The Bournemouth Collegiate School 11+ entrance examination consists of the following papers:

 

  • English comprehension (multiple choice)
  • English creative writing paper
  • Mathematics (multiple-choice)

 

The English (GL-style) comprehension paper examines skills such as inference, vocabulary and grammar. The questions are multiple-choice.

 

The English writing paper assesses punctuation and spelling, among other skills. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.

 

The maths (GL-style) exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper will include multiple-choice questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
