Introduction

Haileybury, formally Haileybury and Imperial Service College, is a co-ed independent school for boarding and day pupils aged 11-18. Occupying a beautiful campus near Hertford, it boasts a long and impressive list of notable alumni, including Victoria Cross holders and prominent businessmen, surgeons and politicians. [1]

In the Middle School, the curriculum is tailored to reflect the school’s commitment to academic excellence. As such, it features a number of relevant subject options, ranging from languages and technology to psychology and visual arts.

The co-curricular provision is just as extensive, promoting both ambition and endeavour. The breadth of activities includes CCF, MUN, Genealogy Club, Mandarin, swimming, photography and Eco Group, maximising pupils’ interest in social interactions which, in turn, allows them to build firm friendships. [2]

The most recent ISI report speaks highly of the Haileybury ethos, culture and overall outcomes. Pupils were described as ‘excellent communicators’, who approach learning with enthusiasm and tend to celebrate both their own achievements and those of their peers equally. [3]

The pastoral provision instils in children a sense of right and wrong early on. Staff meticulously care about each pupil’s emotional, mental and physical wellbeing, supporting their development into global citizens capable of changing the world for the better.
