St Paul’s School is a selective school for boys that occupies a 43-acre site by the Thames in London. Among the leaders in the area of independent education, it has one of the highest Oxbridge acceptance rates nationally. St Paul’s features a rich range of sporting facilities, including a 25-metre swimming pool, 10 tennis courts and 11 rugby pitches and is thus widely recognised for its successes in this area. [1]

St Paul’s hosts Open Afternoons and Open Mornings, welcoming families for a fun day packed with useful activities, such as guided tours of facilities and meetings with key staff members. There may also be an address from the Head. Pre-registering for the events is essential. 


St Paul’s School, London, 13 Plus (13+) Admissions                   


In order for your son to be considered for a 13+ place, you should register him with the school using this form. The registration fee of £175 is non-refundable.


All registered candidates will be asked to complete an online pretest as part of the 13+ admissions process. This is taken while your son is in Year 6. Based on successful performance in the pretest and quality reports from your child’s current school, he may be invited back to the school for a second round of assessments. 


These take place between January and July of Year 6 and include paper-based assessments and an interview with a senior staff member. Within three weeks, your son’s results will be made known and, if he has been placed on the Main List and an offer has been made, you will be asked to accept it by the end of Year 7. 


St Paul’s School, London, 13 Plus (13+) Scholarships and Bursaries


St Paul’s offers Academic and Music Scholarships. Academic awards are offered to 13+ applicants who have been placed on the Main List and who’ve performed exceptionally well in further assessments, taking place in May. Academic Scholarships are honorary and valued at £60 per annum.


Music Scholarships are awarded to applicants who demonstrate exceptional potential in at least one instrument. They are allocated on the basis of audition and written assessments and are worth £60 per annum, including free tuition on two instruments.


Top-performing applicants in the admissions process can also be considered for a means-tested bursary. Bursaries are offered to families in need of financial assistance following the completion of a bursary application form, sent to parents by the school. 


On the basis of household income, expenditure, assets, investments and dependants, supported by documented evidence, you may qualify for the award. Please note that families whose income exceeds £120,000 per annum are typically considered ineligible.

The St Paul’s School, London, Stage 1 13+ entrance examination consists of the following test:


  • ISEB Common Pretest


The Pretest is an online assessment that assesses skills in Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning.



The St Paul’s School, London, Stage 2 13+ entrance examination consists of the following assessments:


  • English (25 minutes)
  • Mathematics (25 minutes)
  • Interview (20 minutes)


The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. 


The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper will include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
