St Christopher School is a co-educational, independent day and boarding school in Hertfordshire. It was founded in 1915, not too long after Ebenezer Howard established Letchworth Garden City. The school is considered a long-time proponent of progressive education.
In Senior School, pupils study English, mathematics, science, French, Spanish, art, cookery, computing, design technology, drama, geography, history, music, physical education & games and PSHE. Clubs and societies further develop their skills and boost their academic potential through a selection of opportunities such as Astronomy Club, Robotics Workshop, Computer Coding and Maths Drop in for All.
Additionally, students actively engage in sports activities including athletics, cricket, rugby, swimming and a number of others, brought into action during residential trips to destinations such as Madagascar, Borneo, India (Himalayas) and Sweden.

St Christopher School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
Registration is done by completing an online Application Form and paying a non-refundable Registration Fee of £100. The school will then request your child’s most recent report and a confidential reference.
The next stage consists of entrance examinations. Assessment Mornings are held on Fridays in November, December and early January and include an exam, a tour of the school and lunch with current students, as well as an informal interview with a senior staff member. Art Scholarship applicants are also interviewed by the Head of Art.
The deadline for offer acceptances is in March. To secure your child’s place at the school, you will be expected to pay a deposit.
St Christopher School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
St Chris offers one Academic Scholarship and one Art Scholarship to each year group.
Scholarships carry a maximum value of 10% of tuition fees, and take into consideration the applicant’s ability to make an outstanding contribution to life at the school.
Academic Scholarships are based on performance in the entrance examinations. Art Scholarships are awarded on the basis of interview and portfolio. The school looks for pupils who are able to fully utilise a variety of media, ideas and approaches.
Art Scholarship applications must be submitted in early November of the year preceding entry.
To families in financial need, St Chris offers fee assistance (bursaries). Bursaries are awarded on the basis of several criteria: the child’s capacity to benefit from attending St Chris, their family’s financial circumstances and the degree of assistance required.

St Christopher School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The St Christopher School 11+ exam consists of the following tests:
- English: writing
- Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT4)
The English paper examines writing skills, including spelling, vocabulary and grammar. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The CAT4 test aims to assess developed abilities via modules testing Verbal, Non-Verbal, Spatial and Quantitative Reasoning.
