Basic information: Ryde School with Upper Chine (also known as Ryde School) is a co-ed independent day and boarding school in Ryde, on the Isle of Wight. Open Events for Ryde School 8 Plus (8+) Entry
The whole school Open Mornings take place in October and February, welcoming families on campus so that they can learn more about everything on offer. The events include displays, presentations, Q&A sessions, guided tours of facilities and refreshments, providing an insight into Ryde’s educational philosophy and methods of functioning. Ryde School 8 Plus (8+) Admissions
If places are available in Year 4, you are advised to register your child for entry early on. Please note that the registration fee of £250 is non-refundable.
The assessment process includes tests of attainment, character references from your child’s current school and interviews. Subject to a successful outcome, they may receive an offer. At this point, an acceptance deposit is payable: £450 for day pupils and £900 for those who wish to board.
Ryde School 8 Plus (8+) Scholarships and Bursaries
Scholarships are not available to 8+ applicants. Please reach out to the school to learn if you can apply for a bursary.
Ryde School 8 Plus (8+) Exam Format
The Ryde School 8 Plus (8+) exam consists of the following assessments:
- English and Mathematics
Or
- Non-Verbal Reasoning
The English assessment examines comprehension and writing skills, including spelling, punctuation and grammar, as well as the fluency of your child’s reading and oral skills.
The Maths exam assesses problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills, including your child’s knowledge of times tables.
Instead of English and Maths assessments, Ryde may opt for a Non-Verbal Reasoning exam when assessing pupils for 8+ entry.
The Non-Verbal Reasoning exam measures the ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
