Ashford School is a co-educational independent boarding and day school in East Hill, Ashford, Kent. The school is owned and run by the United Church Schools Trust.
Ashford School was recently ranked amongst the top 20 co-educational independent schools in the UK and was voted Independent School of the Year in 2010. It was declared ‘outstandingly successful’ in every category during the inspection by the Independent Schools Inspectorate in 2014.
The school is dedicated to inspiring its pupils to be adventurous inside and outside of the classroom. Based on the notion that happiness breeds success, Ashford encourages intellectual freedom, creativity, determination and leadership.
Academic confidence and curiosity are enabled through the application of a comprehensive curriculum programme. It includes art, biology, chemistry, computer studies, design and technology, drama, English, French, German, Spanish, geography, history, mathematics, music, PSHE, physics, religious studies, sports, etc.
The PSHE timetable covers a number of subjects, including A-Z of Love and Sex, Body Image, Bullying, Contraception Talk, Cybersecurity, Death and Loss, Disability Awareness, Discrimination, Eating Disorders, Emotional Wellbeing, and many more.
Within the scope of the extensive pastoral care, the school’s Health Centre offers a holistic approach to the health and wellbeing of every child. Pupils have regular access to the School Doctor, the School Counsellor and the Bereavement Counsellor.
Two rooms within the Health Centre are available for students. The ‘Rainbow Room’ is used for time out, support work, meetings, and drop-in sessions, as well as the accommodation of unwell students (if necessary). A second smaller room, ‘The Snug’, has two beds to also accommodate unwell students or students in need of rest, offering them a space to reflect and collect themselves.
The school’s motto Esse Quam Videri (To be, rather than to seem to be) is in full accordance with the need for integrity and truthfulness in times when maintaining a certain image is so prevalent among the youth.
