Introduction
The Belvedere Academy is an all-ability, state-funded secondary school for girls in Liverpool. It was founded in 1880 as Liverpool High School and became an Academy in 2007, as one of the first two independent schools in the UK to do so. [1]
Boosting pupils’ skills in all areas of the curriculum, the school provides expert teaching for a broad range of subject areas, including English, mathematics, science, RS, history, geography, MFL, drama, creative arts, music, ICT and PE.
Numerous enrichment opportunities are also on offer, ranging from Mindfulness, Debate Club, Netball and Maths High Achievers to Lego Club, Animation, Choir and Combined Cadet Force (CCF). CCF is a Leadership Programme through which pupils learn about self-discipline, loyalty, respect and resilience whilst developing strong leadership roles and cooperation skills. The broad selection of CCF pursuits includes drill, rope work, chart work, afloat activities, naval communications and courses. [2]
The school’s impressive alumni community, spanning all over the world, ensures that girls benefit from a number of mentoring programmes, business networking and social events. In line with the Belvedere ethos, expectations from students are high and the learning community is diverse and respectful of individuality, strongly encouraging self-belief and independent thought.
