Table of Contents
Newcastle School for Boys (NSB) is an independent school in Newcastle, educating boys from 3 – 18. The School was formed in 2005 after the merger of two preparatory schools, Ascham House School and Newlands Preparatory School.
It occupies multiple sites in the Gosforth area of the city. The Junior School is located in two buildings on either side of West Avenue, and half-a-mile east of the Junior School is the Senior School’s site, near The Grove and Moor Road.
The main Senior School building is the former (Victorian-era) home of local magnate John Henry Reah, built in the late 1890s.
Despite being one of the newest schools in the independent sector, Newcastle School for Boys is best known for its traditional values, adequately adapted to prepare students for the changing expectations and pressures of modern life.
NSB encourages small class sizes so that every boy is treated and educated as an individual.
The curriculum offers a broad range of subjects, including English, maths, science, French, Spanish, geography, history, art and design, computer science, design technology, music and religious studies.
To enable the boys’ access to the best facilities, coaching and inspiration, the school maintains strong relationships with some of the region’s top sports clubs: Newcastle Falcons, Newcastle United and South Northumberland Cricket Club.
Known as a school that fully supports and encourages the academic development of its students, NSB hosts The Duke of Edinburgh award scheme, a highly popular and nationally recognised programme by both UK and international universities and employers.
The exceptional pastoral care offered at NSB continually fosters the boys’ awareness of traits such as courage, empathy and resilience, and thus equips them with all the necessary skills to develop friendships and relationships that enrich both their personal and school life.
