Introduction
Basic information: Badminton School is an independent boarding and day school for girls in Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol. Established in 1858, it is a reputable school that has maintained a progressive approach towards educating since its conception. [1]
Curriculum: Badminton’s Junior School strongly emphasises the development of literacy and numeracy skills, although extensive teaching is provided for a number of other disciplines, including humanities, languages and ICT. Benefitting from such a broad offering, girls engage in learning with high levels of curiosity and intellectual independence, acquiring strong qualifications in the process.
Co-curricular: The Junior School also delivers a varied enrichment programme, encompassing everything from judo and netball to horse riding and origami. Girls are encouraged to take full advantage of the available opportunities and maximise their potential, forging fond memories of the invigorating time spent on campus. [2]
Pastoral care: The well-being of each member of the Badminton community is paramount. The school’s philosophy rests on the notion that academic progress is strongly associated with happiness and fulfilment, hence the staff invest a lot of effort to provide girls with a balanced and harmonious learning environment. Pupils’ sense of empathy is stretched through participation in charity events, also helping them recognise the importance of social responsibility. [3]
The impressive list of notable alumni, including Booker Prize winner Iris Murdoch and Indira Gandhi, testifies to the school’s high standards of teaching and care and underpins its strong academic reputation. Leavers frequently access top universities in the country and beyond, aiming to use their gifts for the benefit of effectively addressing setbacks, without ever falling short.
