Introduction

Queen Elizabeth Grammar School (QEGS) is an independent day school for boys in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Dating back to 1591, it boasts an impressive list of notable alumni, including a US Senator, mathematicians, university professors and archaeologists. [1]

Academically, the school places particular emphasis on the core subjects English, mathematics and science. In addition to these, expert teaching is delivered for humanities, MFL, ICT, sports and the arts.

Through active participation in drama and musical performance pieces and competitions, pupils boost their language, literature and poetry proficiency while developing their social interaction skills.

Extracurricular pursuits encourage further interaction and the exploration and discovery of new talents. The list of activities includes everything from athletics, coding, cookery and chess to fencing, gardening, choir and martial arts. [2]

QEGS Junior also offers an outdoor learning programme, through which pupils’ connection with peers and nature is nurtured and their leadership skills and confidence are expanded. Whether that be bushcraft, shelter building, rope work or tool use, the activities maximise children’s capacity for learning and allow them to forge fond memories of the time spent at school.
