Introduction

 

Milton Abbey School is an independent day and boarding school located in the village of Milton Abbas, near Blandford Forum in Dorset. It is set in Grade II* listed parklands, landscaped in the late 18th century by Capability Brown.

 

The curriculum covers the following departments: art & photography, communication & culture, countryside management, drama & theatre studies/performing arts, design & technology, economics, English, enterprise & entrepreneurship, equine management, French, geography, government & politics, history, history of art, hospitality, ICT, mathematics, music, religious studies, science, Spanish and sport.

 

After-class activities include the popular Combined Cadet Force and The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, enabling pupils to make new friends and improve their leadership and problem-solving skills.

 

Through the provision of a carefully structured and broad curriculum, the school maximises pupils’ academic potential whilst developing their skills so that they can access the world of work and life with ease. Open Events for Milton Abbey School 13 Plus (13+) Entry

 

Lower School Open Days include a short presentation from the Head, pupil-led tours of the campus, workshops with senior pastoral and academic staff, visits to boarding houses, taking part in lessons and experiencing some of the activities available at the school. You will also have the opportunity to meet with Heads of Department over a light lunch and visit the School Farm and Stables. Places are limited, so early booking via the Admissions Office is advised.

 

Introduction Visits are held on Thursdays. The events include a tour of a boarding house with the Housemaster or Housemistress, a pupil-led tour of the school, observing a lesson and a chat with members of the senior pastoral and academic staff over coffee. Booking is made via the Admissions Office.

 

Admissions Visits are for pupils who are already registered and wish to be assessed to confirm a place at Milton Abbey. For 13+ entry, these visits are arranged when your child is in Year 7.

 

During Admissions Visits, your child will be interviewed by the Head. There will also be a private meeting between you and the Head, a visit to a boarding house and a tour of the school and facilities of interest. You will have the opportunity to meet a Head of Department, the Director of Sport or the Head of Learning Support. 

 

Note that you will be expected to bring along the registration form and a reference from your child’s current school.

 

Milton Abbey School 13 Plus (13+) Admissions  

     

After your child attends an individual Admissions Visit, you may receive an unconditional offer, which should be accepted by the deadline stated on the letter. To confirm the place, you will be asked to pay a deposit of £1000 and return the Acceptance Form to the school. 

 

The offer is subject to a positive current-school reference, satisfactory cognitive test scores and the interview with the Head/Deputy Head. If your current school does not offer the cognitive abilities test, Milton Abbey will provide it. 

 

Your child can also follow the Common Entrance route. 

 

Milton Abbey School 13 Plus (13+) Scholarships and Bursaries

 

The Admission Visit can also include assessment for any Scholarship applications, with the exception of Sports Scholarships which are assessed at other times of the year.

 

Milton Abbey also offers Academic, Art, Design Technology, Drama, Music, Sailing and All-Rounder Scholarships. These carry a 10% remission on school fees but may be coupled with a bursary. 

 

The Dorset Scholarship is offered to pupils in Year 6 at the time of assessment who live or attend a school in Dorset. The award carries 20% remission on the day fees.
