Introduction
Tranby School, previously known as Hull Collegiate School, is a co-ed independent school in Anlaby, near Hull, in the East Riding of Yorkshire. It was founded in 2005 as a result of a merger of two independent schools in the area. [1]
The strong academic provision in the Prep School is supported by experienced staff, delivering lessons in the areas of maths, English, science, MFL, PE, games, music, art and DT. A number of non-academic pursuits are also on offer, including over 33 extra-curricular clubs such as judo, golf, Mandarin, chess, cricket, sewing, Rubik’s Cube and drama.
A beautiful historic building is at the heart of the school, complemented with modern and spacious facilities, including refurbished EYFS classrooms, a new Sports Pavilion and Prep outdoor play areas.
The ethos is centred on recognition and celebration of achievement, both in and out of the classroom. Pupils progress through the school with a sense of purpose and, in line with Collegiate’s high standards of conduct and work, they mature into rounded individuals with strong personal qualities.

To find out more about the school and their curricular and extracurricular provision, you are most welcome to visit, either during Open Events or by scheduling an individual visit. Guided tours are arranged for each prospective family, allowing them to explore facilities and ask questions of interest.
Tranby School 7 Plus (7+) Admissions
If, after the visit, you decide to apply for a 7+ place, you should submit a completed registration form and pay a £25 fee. The 7+ assessment includes papers for English, Maths and Non-Verbal Reasoning.
Subject to successful performance, your child may be offered a place, which is to be accepted with a payment of a £100 fee. All parents with legal responsibility must also sign the School’s Form of Acceptance.
Tranby School 7 Plus (7+) Scholarships and Bursaries
Scholarships and bursaries are only available to Senior School applicants.
Tranby School 7 Plus (7+) Exam Format
The Tranby School 7 Plus (7+) exam consists of the following assessments:
- English
- Mathematics
- Non-Verbal Reasoning
The English assessment examines comprehension and writing skills, including spelling, punctuation and grammar, as well as the fluency of your child’s reading and oral skills.
The Maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills, including their knowledge of times tables.
The Non-Verbal Reasoning paper measures their ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
