Introduction
Tranby School, previously known as Hull Collegiate School, is a co-educational independent school in Anlaby, East Yorkshire. It was founded in 2005 as a result of a merger of two of the area’s independent schools. [1]
The curriculum comprises art, computing, drama, English, food technology, geography, history, Latin, mathematics, Modern Foreign Languages, music, physical education, religious studies, science and PSHE. Beyond the classroom, pupils enjoy activities which extend their abilities in music and sports and frequently partake in clubs such as chess, debating, lacrosse and Environmental club.
Through the provision of a sense of security, ownership and belonging to the school community, the school ensures that pupils receive the best theoretical and practical education possible. As strong interpersonal relationships are developed between them, pupils ready themselves for the challenges ahead.

Open Events for Tranby School 11 Plus (11+) Entry
Individual visits can be arranged throughout the school year at a time convenient for you. They include a tour during which you will meet staff and pupils. You can book your visit by reaching out to the Admissions Team.
The whole school open events are held in March and October. They include a pupil-led tour and offer the opportunity to speak to members of the leadership team and current pupils. You can view the school’s exact location on the map below:
Tranby School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
Your child should ideally be registered with the school at least a full calendar year preceding the desired date of admission. The registration form is included in the admissions pack and should be returned with a payment of a £25 non-refundable fee.
Entrance assessments are held in January. Offers are made based on performance in the examinations and quality reports from your child’s current school. If they fall slightly short of the school’s expectations, a place may still be offered following an informal interview, at the discretion of the Head.
Acceptance of a place includes a payment of a refundable deposit of £100. The school’s Form of Acceptance should also be completed and returned. This document is the primary contract with the school and you will be expected to agree to the financial obligations regarding notice and withdrawal. Your child cannot be admitted until this process is completed.
Tranby School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
Pupils sitting the entrance examination will be automatically considered for an Academic Scholarship, which is reviewed annually since the continuity of a scholarship is dependent on your child’s effort and attainment. Music Scholarships are also available and are awarded following an audition.
Assisted Places are means tested and can cover up to 85% of tuition fees. They are awarded on the basis of both academic ability and financial need. Applications need to be submitted in December.
The school also offers a sibling discount of 5% for the second child and 10% for the third and subsequent siblings. Fees are discounted for siblings who attend the school at the same time. For more information about scholarships and bursaries, please visit the school’s website.

The Tranby School 11+ examinations consist of:
- Online test called ISEB Common Pretest
The ISEB Pretest assesses your child’s ability in skills such as numeracy, problem solving and vocabulary, with emphasis on how they think and how they respond to the curriculum. The test includes modules testing maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning.
