Originally established by John Glyn in 1574, Colfe’s School was re-founded in 1652 by the Reverend Abraham Colfe, Vicar of Lewisham. It became fully co-educational in 1999.

Colfe’s School aims to promote excellence and develop pupils’ abilities and character to the fullest through the provision of innovative academic teaching as well as a wide range of cultural, sporting and extra-curricular activities.

The curriculum includes art, design & technology, drama, media studies, music, modern languages, Latin, PE and mathematics.

Via Outdoor Education activities, the co-curriculum programme develops confidence amongst children within the most spectacular scenery in the United Kingdom.

The programme comprises residential weeks in the Lake District, North Wales and Oxfordshire with courses in canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, abseiling, caving, mine exploration, gorge scrambling, mountain walking, high ropes courses and bushcraft.

Other options include Overseas expeditions, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, the Combined Cadet Force, etc.

The instillment of spiritual and moral values amongst pupils which complements the balanced and diverse community of the academically selective school is aligned with the Christian principles of the Founder, Abraham Colfe.

In accordance with the motto Ad astra per aspera (Through hardships to the stars), the school nurtures a deeply profound connection with its pupils, established within a peaceful, purposeful and disciplined environment within which they are encouraged to use their talents for the greater good of the community and society as a whole.

The Verbal Reasoning paper (multiple-choice) is primarily designed to test and assess your child’s logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary. The Non-Verbal Reasoning paper (multiple-choice) is designed to test the ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge. The Reasoning tests are created by GL Assessment.

How to Prepare for the Colfe’s School 11 Plus (11+) Exam

Practice tests are an effective tool for preparation for the Colfe’s School’s 11+ exam.

With the help of our practice tests, designed and formatted to match the actual exams, your child will learn to deal with various 11+ exam question types quickly and confidently.

The benefits for your child are numerous: the tests provide focused practice and familiarity with a wide variety of possibilities and examples, serving as an indicator of any weaker areas that require additional work ahead of the exam. We suggest starting early with your revision so that you have plenty of time to identify subject areas that need additional work.

Our practice tests are used successfully every year by tens of thousands of students targeting schools with a competitive entrance exam. They are age-appropriate, reflecting the demands of the actual exam.

The practice tests are challenging, and preparing for the 11 Plus can sometimes feel overwhelming. But once a carefully thought-out revision plan is implemented, students should find the process a lot more manageable.

Aside from getting used to answering the types of questions that may be asked on the big day, they also work on developing time-management skills, such as answering questions under pressure.

Why do some of the recommendations above show me grammar school papers?

The main difference between independent and grammar school papers is the question format. Independent schools usually assess with standard format questions, which means students need to write out full answers. Grammar schools usually use multiple-choice format questions.

Whilst Colfe’s School is an independent school, they actually use the grammar school (multiple-choice) format for some of their exams, which is why they are included in the recommendations above.

Our practice tests aim to show what sort of questions were included in Colfe’s School 11+ exam past papers. The information provided about Colfe’s School was believed to be correct at the time of publishing. However, please be aware of future changes. We advise you to contact the school directly if you are unsure of anything. School contact details are provided within the post.
