Introduction

Colfe’s School is a co-educational independent day school in Horn Park in the London Borough of Greenwich. It is one of the oldest schools in London. Originally established by John Glyn in 1574, Colfe’s School was re-founded in 1652 by the Reverend Abraham Colfe, Vicar of Lewisham. It became fully co-educational in 1999.

Colfe’s School aims to promote excellence and develop pupils’ abilities and character to the fullest through the provision of innovative academic teaching as well as a wide range of cultural, sporting and extra-curricular activities.

The curriculum includes art, design & technology, drama, media studies, music, modern languages, Latin, PE and mathematics.

The co-curricular programme comprises residential weeks in the Lake District, North Wales and Oxfordshire with courses in canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, abseiling, caving, mine exploration, gorge scrambling, mountain walking, high ropes courses and bushcraft. Other options include Overseas expeditions, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, the Combined Cadet Force, etc.

The instillment of spiritual and moral values amongst pupils which complements the balanced and diverse community of the academically selective school is aligned with the Christian principles of the Founder, Abraham Colfe.

In accordance with the motto Ad astra per aspera (Through hardships to the stars), the school nurtures a deeply profound connection with its pupils, established within a peaceful, purposeful and disciplined environment within which they are encouraged to use their talents for the greater good of the community and society as a whole.

Why do some of the recommendations above show me grammar school papers?

The main difference between independent and grammar school papers is the question format. Independent schools usually assess with standard format questions, which means students need to write out full answers. Grammar schools usually use multiple-choice format questions.

Whilst Colfe’s School is an independent school, they actually use the grammar school (multiple-choice) format for some of their exams, which is why they are included in the recommendations above.

Our practice tests aim to show what sort of questions were included in Colfe’s School 11+ exam past papers. The information provided about Colfe’s School was believed to be correct at the time of publishing. However, please be aware of future changes. We advise you to contact the school directly if you are unsure of anything. School contact details are provided within the post.
