Introduction

Basic information: Oxford High School is an independent day school for girls in Oxford. Noted as the city’s oldest girls’ school and one of the top-performing facilities nationally, Oxford High was founded by the GDST in 1875. [1]

Curriculum: Designed to stretch pupils’ abilities, the curriculum broadly reflects the school’s aims to produce independent and inquisitive thinkers. Comprising Mandarin, science, mathematics, humanities and a number of other subject areas, it provides plentiful opportunities for both theoretical and practical learning, supported by excellent teaching provision.

Co-curricular: The activities programme is as broad as it gets, introducing girls to a wide range of opportunities for all-round growth through trips, sports and artistic pursuits. Choosing from ceramics, chess, ballet, cooking, choir, Japanese Club and many others, children gain valuable experiences and forge lasting memories alongside a set of truly indispensable skills. [2]

ISI Inspection reports: According to the ISI, Oxford High boasts a broad provision of an exceptional standard. Pupils’ personal development was characterised as excellent, as was the community’s readiness to challenge discrimination and inequality. Governed by constructive leadership, the school fuels girls’ ambition and healthy competitive spirit, which results in strong achievements that are also very highly regarded in the inspection report. [3]

The Oxford High ethos is rooted in the determination to secure pupils’ future prosperity by encouraging risk-taking in both academic and non-academic areas. Consequently, girls develop into persons of integrity, courageous in the face of adversity and bold in the efforts to preserve their originality.
