Introduction

 

St Joseph’s College is a co-educational, independent day and boarding school in Ipswich, Suffolk. Founded in 1937 by the De La Salle Brothers, the school occupies a 60-acre campus, comprising various facilities and two boarding houses. [1]

 

The curriculum covers art & design, business studies, computer science, drama, MFL, food preparation & nutrition, geography, history, music, photography, product design, physical education, religious education and science.

 

St Joseph’s varied extra-curricular programme aims to meet the ever-changing interests of students, and hence ranges from recreational and competitive sports, to cultural and arts activities, with a strong emphasis on art, music and drama.

 

The school also organises national and international trips within the scope of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme and the Young Enterprise programme, and offers exchange opportunities for Year 9 pupils in conjunction with three schools in Sydney, Australia.

If you wish your child to be considered for Year 7 entry, you should complete and return the application form together with a £75 registration fee. Copies of their last two reports and current-school references will also be requested. 

 

Entry is dependent on performance in a paper-based exam, taking place in December, and an interview with the Principal. On the basis of positive outcomes throughout the admissions process, your child may receive an offer of a place, which requires a payment of a deposit and the completion of an acceptance form.  

 

St Joseph’s College 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries

 

At 11+, the school offers scholarships in a number of areas, including Academic ability, Art, Drama, Music and Sports. They are typically valued at 5-20% of full fees. The award will be valid for the duration of your child’s education at the College, unless their commitment, conduct and progress are proven unsatisfactory.

 

Means-tested bursaries are also available. To be considered for a bursary, you should complete a bursary application form with details of income and capital, accompanied by full documentary evidence.
