Eltham College Junior School has its own identity, but is still very much part of Eltham College. It is the main prep school feeder into the Senior School and students transfer to the senior school without the need to take the entrance exam.
The college philosophy is to link academic achievement and discipline with the broader life of the school. For example, dedication in practising a musical instrument, teamwork in sports, learning lines for a play, working to promote environmental awareness; these are all skills and attitudes beneficial in the academic arena.
French and Mandarin are the curriculum languages of choice. Mandarin is the fastest-growing studied language in the world in recent years. Eltham College believes that enabling students to learn Mandarin will help them stay competitive, give them more options for careers and will open their eyes to a country of huge potential. Mandarin requires pupils to adapt not only to different sounds, but also to different shapes, linguistic rules and culture – all of which are the ideal stimuli for enquiring minds.
The deadline for 7+ exam applications to Eltham College Junior School is in December prior to the year of entry.

At Eltham College Junior School Open Mornings, families are given a pupil guide and encouraged to ask as many questions as possible as they tour the school’s departments and facilities. Tours also include the viewing of the Senior School facilities that are used by the Junior School.
The school also offers tours during the working school day, giving prospective 7+ parents the opportunity to see the school in action, plus time to meet with the Registrar and Headmaster to ask any further questions that you may have. To book one of these tours, please email the registrar at: firstname.lastname@example.org
An activity morning takes place prior to the exams in January. Attendance is voluntary but strongly encouraged. It gives children a chance to familiarise themselves with the school and take part in enjoyable activities including Art, Music, IT and Games.
The assessment process will then take place over a three-week process, with children being invited in groups of 8. The exams cover maths, english and verbal reasoning in an interactive format. Detailed guidelines regarding expectations can be found here.

There are no scholarships available for Eltham College Junior School, but a number of scholarships are available at age 11 for entry to the Senior School. The Junior School has an excellent record for achieving such awards. On average, over recent years, ten Junior School pupils per year have received offers of academic, sport or music scholarships.
