Introduction

 

St Dominic’s Priory School is an independent, co-ed day school in the town of Stone, halfway between Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford. Rated ‘Excellent’ in their last ISI Inspection, the school recently ranked 2nd best in Staffordshire for Maths and English GCSE results.

 

The curriculum covers art & design, biology, business, chemistry, drama & dance, English, MFL, geography, history, ICT, mathematics, music, PE, physics and religious education.

 

Through a rich and varied extra-curricular programme, the school further engages pupils in art, music and dance activities, as well as in a range of sports such as netball, football, tennis, trampoline, cricket, swimming, golf, cross-country and athletics.

As a first step in the admissions process, you will be expected to complete an application form and send it to the Admissions Secretary. Entry to Year 7 is dependent upon performance in entrance examinations and the quality of the reference and recent report obtained from your child’s current school. There may also be an interview.

 

If you receive an offer of a place, you should accept it by paying a returnable deposit of £1000, which will secure your child’s place for the next academic year. £750 of this amount will be credited against their first term’s fees, while the remaining £250 will be held till the time they finish school.

St. Dominic’s Priory School offers (up to four) Academic Scholarships on the grounds of performance in entrance examinations.  

 

Art Scholarships are awarded following a formal one-hour assessment. Applicants must also submit two pieces of their own artwork.

 

Music Scholarships are offered following successful auditions, while Performing Arts Scholarships are available to applicants with exceptional talent in drama, dance and singing.

 

Sport Scholarships are typically offered to applicants who compete at regional or national level and have an outstanding ability in one sport, or who excel in a range of sporting achievements. 

 

Bursaries are awarded on the basis of availability of funds.

The St Dominic’s Priory School 11+ exam consists of the following papers:

The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.

 

The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. 

 

The Non-Verbal Reasoning paper measures their ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
