Introduction

Basic information: The King’s School is a co-ed day and boarding establishment in Canterbury, Kent. It is Britain’s oldest public school and one of the oldest continuously operating schools in the world, boasting a feeder preparatory facility called the Junior King’s School (JKS). [1]

Curriculum: JKS offers a stimulating curriculum which provides pupils with a broad understanding in the areas of computing, drama, DT, humanities and languages, among others. PSHE is one of the syllabus’ highlights, aiming to familiarise students with the wealth of opportunities and experiences of adulthood through discussion, multimedia or visiting speaker sessions.

Co-curricular: Maximising the benefits of the educational experience, JKS features a rich activities programme, including squash, animation, rowing, coding, orchestra and ballet. Children take full advantage of the extensive offering and develop lasting skills, accessing further stages of their lives with a broad span of interests. [2]

Facilities: The school’s campus hosts a vast number of state-of-the-art facilities, ranging from spacious computer suites and purpose-built science labs to Forest School grounds and The Barn. Dating back to 1580, The Barn is architecturally the school’s most significant building, serving as the main area for plays, concerts, orchestra practice and Drama activities, as well as external, local events. [3]

Coupled with comprehensive pastoral care, the JKS ethos underpins a warm and welcoming community, where pupils’ unique talents and abilities are meticulously cared for. As a result, children develop empathy, resilience and integrity, taking full advantage of the secure learning environment where academic growth and character development dwell as one.
