Introduction

 

St Francis’ College is a boarding and day school for girls in Letchworth, Hertfordshire. Its campus spreads across 3.1 hectares, comprising a number of buildings, extensive playing fields and gardens, along with specialist facilities.

 

The rich and extensive curriculum covers art, business studies, computer science, drama, economics, English, geography, history, food & nutrition, ICT, latin & classics, mathematics, MFL, music, photography, PE, PSHE, psychology, religious studies and science.

 

St Francis’ also offers a number of co-curricular activities. Artistic girls can play an instrument in the orchestra, or act in major annual productions taking place in the school’s purpose-built theatre, while those into sports can compete against other schools or enjoy recreational pursuits such as aerobics and golf.

St Francis’ College, Letchworth, 11 Plus (11+) Admissions

  

To apply for entry, you should submit the application form and pay the non-refundable fee of £100. Admission is subject to a satisfactory report from your daughter’s current school and successful performance in the entrance exams. 

 

The assessments take place in January of the calendar year of entry. As part of the admission process, there will also be an interview with a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

 

Offer letters are sent out by the February half term. If you wish your daughter to become a part of the College’s community, you should pay a deposit to secure her place, valued at £500 for day pupils and £2500 for boarders. 

 

St Francis’ College, Letchworth, 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries

 

The school offers Academic, Sports and Arts Scholarships, covering the fields of Art, Dance, Drama and Music. Academic awards are offered on the basis of performance in the entrance exams and are valued at 10% or 20% of fees.

 

Sports and Arts Scholarships each carry a 10% reduction on fees, plus tuition in one or two disciplines. One St Francis de Sales Award is allocated annually to a daughter or granddaughter of an Old Girl of the College. Please reach out to the school to learn if bursaries are also available.

The St Francis’ College, Letchworth, 11+ exam consists of the following papers:

  • Mathematics
  • Non-Verbal Reasoning

 

The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.

 

The maths exam assesses your daughter’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper may include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.

 

The Non-Verbal Reasoning paper measures her ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
