Introduction

Oakhill School and Nursery is a Catholic independent day school that caters for boys and girls. It comprises a Nursery School, a Preparatory School and a Senior School (it does not have a Sixth Form). Based in Whalley, Oakhill School is proud of the warm and friendly environment it provides to all its pupils. Faith is at the heart of school life, with the school motto being Fides Quamquercus Fortior (Faith Stronger than the Oak).

Academically, pupils at Oakhill Senior School are provided with everything they need to reach their full potential. Small class sizes mean every pupil benefits from having teachers who know them well and can offer them plenty of undivided attention. Unsurprisingly, students typically surpass their predicted targets.

With over 50 activities on offer, including sports, art and languages, the extra-curricular programme at Oakhill Senior School has something for everyone. Students are also given the opportunity to go on school trips, both in the UK and abroad. Participation in the extra-curricular programme helps pupils grow into well-rounded, accomplished young adults.

Students receive strong pastoral support at Oakhill Senior School. Form Tutors are there to guide pupils, and all members of staff work hard to spot minor issues and deal with them before they become anything significant. Whole school events, such as music concerts and school productions, mean pupils make friends across all the year groups, helping to make the school feel like a second home.

Oakhill School, Lancashire: Admissions Process for 11 Plus (11+)/Year 7 Entry

If you are interested in your child starting Oakhill School in Year 7, the best place to begin is by visiting the school. You can arrange this by using the contact details provided lower down. You will meet the Principal, key members of staff and current pupils during your visit, helping you to gain a greater understanding of the school’s ethos.

The next step in the process involves registering your child for a place and paying the registration fee.

In December of Year 6, your child will attend a Taster Day. In the morning, they will sit a maths test and an English test. In the afternoon, they will get to experience what life is like at Oakhill Senior School. Please note that if your child is unable to attend the Taster Day in December, it is possible to arrange an alternative day.

Oakhill School is non-selective. The Taster Day is to establish whether your child would thrive at Oakhill. Additionally, the tests enable staff to identify your child’s strengths and weaknesses, which means additional support can be put in place if necessary.

You will know within two weeks of the Taster Day whether your child has secured a place. Any offer needs to be accepted by the deadline given in the offer letter. Also, the relevant paperwork needs to be completed and the acceptance deposit paid.

Priority may be given to children who already have a sibling at the school or who have a sibling who previously attended the school.

Oakhill School, Lancashire: Scholarships and Bursaries

For 11+ entry, one Academic scholarship is usually awarded to the candidate who performs the best in the entrance assessments. Also, an All-Rounder award is available for 11+ entry. This is awarded based on outstanding achievement in a particular area, such as sport, music, art or service to the candidate’s current school.

Oakhill School offers a limited number of bursaries to children who would benefit from attending the school but whose families are unable to afford the fees. To be considered for a bursary, your financial circumstances will be assessed. If the gross annual income of your household exceeds £60,000, you would be unlikely to qualify for a bursary.
