Introduction
Royal Russell School is an independent co-educational school in the Shirley area of Croydon, South London. It caters for both day and boarding pupils and centres its ethos on the motto Non sibi sed omnibus (Not for oneself but for all), fostering a supportive learning environment where children thrive in all areas. [1]
Academically, Royal Russell aims to challenge pupils and inspire them to reach their full potential. Teaching staff employ a personalised approach to educating, allowing the cohort to acquire a range of skills in the areas of mathematics, languages, sciences and other disciplines.
The variety of after-class clubs is impressive, including athletics, gardening, knitting, programming, orchestra, photography, trampolining and tennis. [2]
Students’ relationship with nature is cultivated through Forest School activities. By fostering a spirit of independence, this initiative offers children the opportunity to engage in adventurous outdoor pursuits, enabling them to create lasting memories and develop valuable social skills. Through this immersive experience, children not only enhance their self-confidence but also cultivate resourcefulness, further supporting their personal growth.
Curiosity and discovery are at the heart of Royal Russell’s overarching provision. As children progress through the school, they become fully equipped with the skills necessary to successfully navigate their educational journey, producing strong academic and non-academic results in the process.
