Introduction
Moreton Hall is an independent boarding and day school for girls aged 6 to 18 and boys aged 6 to 11. Founded in 1913, Moreton Hall is set in 100 acres of beautiful parkland in North Shropshire, four miles from the historic market town of Oswestry.
The curriculum comprises art, drama, food technology, geography, history, Latin, Mandarin, music, religious studies, Spanish, German, ICT, PE and Games, in addition to the core subjects: mathematics, English and science.
The school’s broad Enrichment Programme consists of a varied programme of societies and activities such as the Stables Lecture Series, Jenner Society, Barbirolli Society and Bronwen Society, designed to challenge and stretch each girl’s thinking skills.
Moretonians greatly benefit from their forward-looking school, where they are encouraged to take responsibility for themselves whilst supporting each other and the community. Grounded in the belief that imagination knows no bounds, the school was recently judged in the top category by the ISI.

Open Events for Moreton Hall 11 Plus (11+) Entry
Popular open events are Whole School Open Day and Moreton Mornings. Similar in format, they include a tour of the school and a meeting with the Principal. Moreton Hall 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
After visiting the school and meeting the Principal, the school recommends that your child experiences a taster session. This will allow her to become familiar with the setting and current pupils, as well as some staff members.
The assessment day is held in January of the calendar year of entry, prior to which Moreton Hall will obtain reports and references from your child’s current school. On the day, pupils are assessed through paper-based and online examinations, which are followed by an interview with the Principal.
Throughout the admissions process, the following fees are payable: £200 for registration and £1,000 for acceptance of a place. Please note that the registration fee is non-refundable.
Moreton Hall 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
Scholarships fall into the following categories: Academic, Drama, Music, Sports, All-Rounder and Art & Design. They carry a nominal fee reduction, but you can’t apply for more than two.
All bursaries are means-tested and are administered by the Financial Controller. To qualify for a bursary, you will be asked to complete a Confidential Statement of Financial Circumstances, which is reviewed annually.
The Ursula Roberts Award is for girls whose parents live within a radius of approximately 20 miles of Oswestry. It is worth the equivalent of two day places at Moreton, but may be split up into six lesser awards. It may also be awarded to local girls who would like to board. Sibling Bursaries are for parents with three or more children at the school.
Fee remission is available to the daughters of members of the Independent teaching profession, the daughters of serving members of Her Majesty’s Armed Forces and the daughters of Old Moretonians. More details are available in the Scholarship Guide.
Moreton Hall 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The Moreton Hall entrance assessment consists of the following tests:
- English
- Mathematics
- CEM Select
The English paper focuses on both writing and comprehension skills, including spelling, grammar and inference.
The maths exam tests pupils’ problem-solving and arithmetic skills. The paper will include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
The online reasoning test CEM Select examines your daughter’s skills in Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning and Numerical Reasoning. Please see below for further details and recommendations on how to prepare for the Moreton Hall 11+ entrance examinations.
