Introduction
Based in the Berkshire countryside, Lambrook is an independent preparatory school for boys and girls. It was founded in 1860 and occupies 52 acres of grounds, playing fields and numerous cutting-edge facilities, including a golf course, a 25-metre indoor swimming pool and a Performing Arts Centre. Open Events for Lambrook School 8 Plus (8+) Entry
Typical open events are not part of Lambrook’s admissions process, but the school strongly encourages prospective parents to schedule a private visit. This includes a one-on-one with the Head and a tour of facilities, led by the Registrar, during which you will learn details about everything on offer.
Lambrook School 8 Plus (8+) Admissions
Registration for 8+ places should be completed early on. Please note that this includes a payment of a £200 non-refundable fee.
The admissions process centres on formal assessments, taking place in November of the year preceding entry. If the outcome is successful, your child may be offered a place. The acceptance deposit amounts to half a term’s fees, £2,000 of which are refunded when your child leaves Lambrook.
Lambrook School 8 Plus (8+) Scholarships and Bursaries
Scholarships are not available, but the school does provide bursaries, offered at the full discretion of the Headmaster.
There are two possible routes:
- means-testing procedure, carried out by BAL (Bursary Administration Ltd);
- referral from professional bodies such as Springboard.

Lambrook School 8 Plus (8+) Exam Format
The Lambrook School 8 Plus (8+) exam consists of the following assessments:
- English
- Maths
- Non-Verbal Reasoning
The English exam tests comprehension and writing skills, including inference, punctuation and grammar, as well as the fluency of your child’s reading and their oral skills.
The Maths exam assesses problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills, including your child’s knowledge of times tables.
The Non-Verbal Reasoning exam measures the ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
