Sheffield Girls’ offers open events throughout the year, providing an opportunity for you and your daughter to explore the campus and discover the school’s wide range of offerings. In addition to attending one of these events, it is highly advisable to arrange a private visit for a more personalised experience. Sheffield High School for Girls 8 Plus (8+) Admissions
To apply for a place in Year 4 on behalf of your daughter, you should complete an online application form, found here, and submit it with a payment of a £35 registration fee.
Your daughter will then be invited to attend a Taster Day, during which she will participate in fun activities and sit formal assessments. Offers are extended on the basis of a successful performance in the assessments and a positive report from your daughter’s current school. If a place is offered, it should be confirmed with a payment of a £300 deposit, which will be refunded when your daughter leaves the school.

The Sheffield High School for Girls 8 Plus (8+) entrance exam covers the following areas:
- English – this paper consists of the following sections:
➢ Reading Comprehension (usually PiRA): evaluates inference skills and the ability to empathise with a story. Some questions will involve longer answers, which will require spelling, punctuation and grammar skills.
➢ Writing: assesses spelling, punctuation, grammar and creativity.
- Mathematics – this paper consists of the following sections:
➢ Problem solving: tests the ability to apply mathematical formulas to solve problems.
➢ Arithmetic: assesses operations with numbers, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
There could also be, time permitting, a short reading exercise, where students will be required to read a passage aloud, showcasing their fluency and reading ability. Please note that this will not be viewed as a formal assessment.
