Introduction
Braeside School is an independent school for girls in Buckhurst Hill, Essex. It is part of the four schools in the Oak-Tree Group, located within a 6-mile radius on the South West Essex/North London borders. [1]
The stimulating academic provision in the Junior School is rooted in staff’s efforts to individually address the needs and interests of each pupil. The high student/teacher ratio allows the school to tailor the curriculum accordingly and thus provide personalised lessons for mathematics, English, science, history, geography, PSHEE, art & design and RS.
Pupils’ skills are further developed through a varied activities programme, which offers everything from book club, cookery, gardening and guitar to karate, street dance, violin and computer club. Learning more about a school prior to applying for a place is essential. Hence, Braeside School kindly advises all prospective families to visit them during their Open Morning events. These typically include tours of facilities, meetings with members of the staff, and, potentially, a one-on-one with the Head. To book your spot, please follow this link.
Braeside School 7 Plus (7+) Admissions
If, following the visit, you wish to proceed with the admissions process, you should complete and submit this registration form together with payment of a £50 registration fee.
Once reviewed, the registration form will place your daughter on the list of 7+ candidates, and the school will get in touch to schedule an assessment. References from her current school will be requested and there will also be an interview. Please note that your daughter’s conduct during assessment day will be taken into consideration, as well.
Once an offer has been made, you will be asked to pay a £500 deposit to secure your daughter’s place, £250 of which will be credited against the first term’s fees. The remaining will be refunded at the end of her final term at school.

The Braeside School 7 Plus (7+) exam consists of the following assessments:
- English
- Mathematics
- Non-Verbal Reasoning
The English exam tests comprehension and writing skills, including inference, punctuation and grammar, as well as the fluency of your child’s reading and oral skills.
The Maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills, including her knowledge of times tables.
The Non-Verbal Reasoning section of the exam measures the ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
