Introduction
Manor House School is an independent day school for girls located in Little Bookham, Surrey. Founded in 1920 in Sidmouth, Devon, it relocated to Surrey shortly after and moved to its current site in 1937. [1]
The school’s general emphasis is on developing pupils’ numeracy and literacy skills, although it simultaneously invests in delivering engaging lessons in the areas of humanities, music, art, drama, PE, French and science.
Girls’ cultural and aesthetic understanding is further enhanced through regular trips and visits, which have included Fishbourne Roman Palace and the British Museum. After classes, they benefit from a broad programme of extracurricular activities, including tennis, ballet, athletics, swimming and orchestra.
The extensive and beautiful grounds occupied by Manor House are home to Forest School, an outdoor learning programme which aims to facilitate girls’ sense of independence and resourcefulness. Sessions take place in all weather conditions, boosting pupils’ social, language and communication skills; physical motor skills and concentration, as well as their understanding of the natural world. [2]
The Manor House ethos is centred on producing happy individuals who trust their abilities to succeed and approach the real world with the determination to apply what they have learned. The recent ISI compliance inspection report for the school indicates that Manor House successfully meets all national standards for quality education, including in the areas of pupils’ personal and academic development, as well as their overall achievements.
