Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools 11 Plus (11+) Entrance Exam Information

The Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools are a family of independent schools located in Monmouth, Wales. They were established upon the will of William Jones, a haberdasher and a great believer in the Puritan ethic of ‘giving back to society’.

In Senior School, girls study art, biology, business, chemistry, classics, computing, design & technology, drama, economics, English, ethics & philosophy, MFL, geography, history, home economics, Latin, mathematics, music, PE, physics, psychology, Russian and science.

Boys study the same subjects (with the exception of home economics), in addition to PSHE and religious studies.

Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools aspire to provide the best teaching tailored to differences in boys’ and girls’ maturity and interests. The unique and innovative system of education, known as the Monmouth Model, delivers an exceptional all-round education, and is responsible for developing talented young men and women, with a positive attitude to life, who are equipped to excel in their chosen paths.

To register your child for Year 7 entry, you should fill in a registration form and pay a non-returnable registration fee of £60. Admission to the schools is conditional upon your child’s potential, not just exam performance. Therefore, the school aims to meet with all prospective pupils prior to the assessment day (in the form of an informal interview), and takes into account reports from your child’s current school.

The 11+ Entrance Assessment takes place in February. On the basis of results in the assessment, interview and the quality of the current school report, the school may offer your child an Academic Scholarship.
