Emanuel School is an independent, co-educational day school located in Battersea, south-west London.
Based on The Telegraph GCSE league tables 2019, Emanuel School is ranked within the top 100 of all independent schools and within the top 50 co-educational schools nationally. Emanuel’s GCSE score of 72.0% A/A* places the school in the top 100 for the second time in the last three years.
The school’s rich history dates back to 1594 when Lady Anne Dacre instructed her executors to build Emanuel Hospital in Westminster for the relief of twenty aged people and for the care and education of approx. 20 boys and girls.
By the middle of the 19th century, the school expanded, rising from the ashes of Emanuel Hospital into a new institution relocated in Wandsworth. The girls attending the old hospital school were sent to Grey Coat Hospital and Emanuel remained boys-only until 1995.
During the following century, Emanuel School slowly grew into the modern complex which now houses well over 900 pupils.
Over 1,900 Old Emanuels (OEs) fought for their country in the course of the First and Second World War. HRM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother visited Emanuel School in 1951, while in 1994, RM Queen Elizabeth II attended the school’s 400th-anniversary celebrations as a guest of honour.
The curriculum includes English, mathematics, biology, chemistry and physics (as separate sciences), geography, history, religious studies, computing, design and robotics (CDR), music, art and design, drama and Latin. Pupils can choose one out of three foreign languages offered in the curriculum: French, German or Spanish.
Since 2019, pupils have a weekly lesson on Ethos, which includes an introduction to critical thinking, informed discussion and debating, with the goal to develop independence and resilience in younger pupils.
According to the school’s philosophy, every young adult is unique and each student is encouraged to pursue and forge their own individual path.
The careers department at Emanuel provides information and one-to-one consultations for students to help them organise work placements. The careers centre offers guidance literature, as well as practice material for entrance examinations such as GMAT, SAT and ACT for those considering US universities.
Students are provided with access to ECON (Emanuel Careers & Opportunities Network), a database run by the Emanuel Parents’ Association, which enables pupils to reach out to parents for support and advice about their future careers.

The school’s Entrance Examination consists of two English papers, one Maths paper, and a Verbal Reasoning paper.

The 11+ Maths paper also lasts 1 hour and it consists of standard format questions. Calculators are not allowed.
The Verbal Reasoning Paper is primarily designed to test and assess pupils’ logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary.
If you’re looking to assist your child in achieving a competitive advantage over their peers whilst helping them reduce pre-exam stress and nerves, our practice tests are the solution.
With the help of our practice tests, you will be able to identify your child’s weaknesses, since they cover all the types of questions that pupils will potentially be asked in the 11+ exam. You will also be able to recognise your child’s strengths, as they get used to answering questions quickly and under pressure.
Identifying the strong and weak points in your child’s knowledge base will allow you to adjust their study schedule accordingly. With a carefully thought-out revision plan that focuses on studying ‘little and often’, the preparation process should become a little less demanding.
Aside from being age-appropriate, our tests are challenging, because they reflect the types of questions that frequently appear in independent school 11+ entrance exams.
Practical and convenient, our practice tests are available for immediate download, print and use after purchase.
