Introduction
Basic information: Hurstpierpoint College is an independent co-ed day and boarding school, based near the village of Hurstpierpoint in West Sussex. Established in 1849, it is a member of the Woodard Corporation and caters for approximately 1,090 pupils. [1]
Curriculum: In its Prep Division, Hurst offers a broad education, underpinned by a balanced curriculum that includes English, mathematics, Latin, French and IT. The teaching environment is characterised by high expectations, successfully blending traditional and modern methods as crucial to the quality of the learning experience.
Co-curricular: The wealth of activities on offer includes outdoor pursuits, artistic and creative opportunities and a number of academic clubs. Pupils are encouraged to test their limitations, thus they enthusiastically engage in street dance, crafts, Scientists of the Future, coding, waterpolo and Ninjutsu, among others, making the most out of the school’s inclusive offering. Hurstpierpoint Prep 8 Plus (8+) Admissions
8+ is not Hurst’s standard entry point, hence you should reach out to the school to discuss availability. The admissions process for this year group includes assessments, testing pupils’ skills across two areas.
Prior to the 8+ exams, Hurst will reach out to your child’s current school to obtain a confidential reference. Please note that, if they are offered a place, you will be asked to accept it with a payment of a £1,000 deposit.

Hurstpierpoint Prep 8 Plus (8+) Exam Format
The Hurst Prep 8 Plus (8+) exam consists of the following assessments:
- English writing
- Reasoning task
The English assessment examines writing skills, including spelling, punctuation and grammar. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The Verbal Reasoning section of the Reasoning test is designed to test and assess logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary.
The Non-Verbal Reasoning section of the Reasoning test measures the ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
