Introduction
Dame Allan’s Schools are a collection of independent schools in Fenham, Newcastle upon Tyne, operating under the ‘diamond’ model. The Junior School is located in a separate building in Spital Tongues. [1]
Its broad curriculum covers the core subjects of English, maths and science, in addition to MFL, music, drama, dance, ICT, PSHEE, PE, geography, history, art, DT and RS.
Dame Allan’s rich and varied extracurricular programme further enhances pupils’ skills through a wide range of activities and clubs such as Fencing, Maths Club, Chess club, Karate and Choir.

Dame Allan’s Junior School hosts open events during which you and your child can take a pupil-led tour of its extensive facilities, hear the Head’s address and meet senior staff members.

Dame Allan’s Junior School 7 Plus (7+) Admissions
The school will consider your child for 7+ entry after you’ve submitted an application form and have paid the £30 registration fee. You are advised to apply at least one year in advance.
Your child will then be invited to the school for formal assessments in Maths, English and Non-Verbal Reasoning. Dame Allan’s will also request their current-school reports.
Dame Allan’s Junior School 7 Plus (7+) Scholarships and Bursaries
Scholarships and bursaries are available at 7+ entry, although the majority of them are awarded to 11+ applicants.
Your child can be a holder of a scholarship and a bursary simultaneously.
Bursaries are means-tested, covering 5-100% of the fees. The value of the award will depend on your need and the amount of funds available. Please note that bursaries are reviewed annually and that they may increase/decrease in value, subject to changes in your financial circumstances.
Typically, a bursary covering full fees (100%) will be awarded to a family with a total income of less than £27,000 per year, with no capital assets other than their home. Please click here for further details.
Dame Allan’s Junior School 7 Plus (7+) Exam Format
The Dame Allan’s 7 Plus (7+) exam consists of the following assessments:
- English
- Mathematics
- Non-Verbal Reasoning
The English assessment examines reading comprehension skills.
The Maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills, including their knowledge of times tables.
The Non-Verbal Reasoning paper measures your child’s ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
