Brentwood School is an independent day and boarding school in Brentwood, Essex. The school is co-educational in accordance with the ‘Diamond Model’. It is a member of the Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference, the IAPS, the AGBIS and the AMDIS.
Opened in 1558, the school has a Tudor schoolroom, a Victorian chapel and comprises several Grade II listed buildings. It is set in over 72 acres of land in the centre of Brentwood.
Brentwood School’s mission is to inspire the love of learning whilst offering a nurturing, culturally creative and intellectually stimulating environment. Its ethos cultivates the desire for achievement and the will to succeed, as pupils are encouraged to strive for the highest academic standards.
Intellectual curiosity is perpetually encouraged, especially within the scope of the rich curriculum which includes art, biology, history, chemistry, mathematics, computer science, physics and PE. French, German, Italian and Spanish are language options, and further subjects include Global Perspectives, religion & philosophy and Wellbeing.
Academic learning is enriched outside the classroom as well. A wide range of activities that enable pupils to grow in confidence, work in teams, develop leadership skills and value service to others are always on offer at Brentwood School.
Along with 12 other schools in the country, the school follows the ‘ Diamond Model’, whereby girls and boys are taught together up to age 11, separately from 11 to 16 and together again in the Sixth Form. Although boys and girls are taught in separate classes during the formative teenage years, they still have many social opportunities to mix together outside the classroom.
The Diamond Model results in the ability to tailor teaching and pastoral care more sensitively to meet the gender-specific (emotional, physical and social) needs of pupils. As such, it helps students mature, cope better in a mixed-gender class in the sixth form and become prepared for life at university or work.
