Introduction
Normanhurst School is a co-educational independent school in North Chingford in the London Borough of Waltham Forest. Founded in 1923, it is part of the Oak-Tree Group of Schools under the ownership of the Hagger Family.
In the Senior School, pupils study: English, maths, science, geography, history, RS, MFL, ICT, music, art, drama, DT, business studies and religion & ethics. Sports activities include Netball, Hockey, Football, Athletics, Basketball, Rugby, Swimming and Gymnastics.
Within the extra-curricular programme, pupils develop an array of skills by taking part in a number of after-class activities and clubs, such as Debating Club, Orchestra and Reading Club.

Normanhurst School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
In order to place your child on the waiting list for Year 7 entry, you should complete the registration form and return it to the school with a non-refundable fee of £50. Entrance examinations are held in January of the calendar year of entry.
The admissions process also includes an interview with the Head and a review of confidential references and reports from your child’s current school. In cases of oversubscription, priority will be given to:
- A child whose sibling is in the school or whose parent is a former pupil;
- A child whose parent is a member of staff;
- A child that demonstrates particular skill, talent or aptitude;
- A child who will remain at the school until age 16.
If a place is offered, you will be asked to confirm your acceptance by completing an acceptance form and returning it with a payment of a £500 deposit.
Normanhurst School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
On the basis of results in the examination and interview process, your child may be offered a scholarship in the areas of Art, Drama, Music, Sport and Academic Ability. Means-tested bursaries are not available.

The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper may include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
