Introduction
Eltham College is a co-ed independent day school in Mottingham, southeast London. Dating back to the early Victorian era, it has educated an impressive number of notable personalities, including diplomats, university professors, scientists and professional athletes. [1]
To support pupils’ growth both academically and non-academically, Eltham offers a varied curriculum that encompasses DT, Mandarin, computing, MFL, science and Latin, among others. Staff’s primary goal is to facilitate pupils’ excellence across all modules, encouraging independent thought in parallel with inquisitiveness about the processes that shape life.
After classes, children enjoy a rich selection of extracurriculars, essentially aimed at maximising the scope of their learning experience. Eltham occupies 70 acres of grounds and thus hosts a number of sporting activities, including athletics, climbing, fencing, rugby and football, alongside clubs and societies which nurture specific interests and individual talents, whether they be coding, chess, debating, creative writing or feminism. [2]
Catering for the needs and concerns of each pupil on campus, the school provides a broad wellbeing programme, supporting children emotionally as they progress through their Senior years and into further stages of their academic development. Grounded in the ‘5Rs’ framework of Resilience, Respect, Relationships, Responsibility and Readiness, the pastoral ethos ensures that interactions and outcomes, achieved within the school’s vibrant community, are positive, vigorous and consistent with its widespread popularity.
