The school’s Open Events are called Visiting Days. They offer families the opportunity to meet the Headmaster, senior staff members and a number of pupils, housemasters and housemistresses. The introductory talk from the Head is followed by a tour of the school, lasting an hour, and a visit to two of the houses that are open for the day.
You will then have drinks and lunch with staff, whilst your child takes lunch separately with other staff members and pupils. To register your attendance, please fill in a form available on the school’s website.
Personal visits can also be arranged. They include a meeting with the Registrar and a pupil-led tour of the school and Houses. For more information, please refer to the Admissions Team.
If you wish your child to be considered for Year 9 entry, you should complete a registration form available on the website, and pay a registration fee of £200. The form must be supported by a copy of your child’s birth certificate.
Pupils applying for Year 9 entry sit pretests in September of Year 7. There will also be a 15-minute interview with a member of staff. A current-school reference will also be requested.
Offers are conditional on satisfactory performance in Common Entrance, or Uppingham’s own exams, in Year 8.
At 13+, the school offers Academic, Music, Art, Design & Technology, Sport, Drama and All Rounder Scholarships.
These are awarded following a separate assessment/observation and interview. Non-means-tested scholarships cover up to 5% of fees, whilst larger scholarship awards, made on the basis of financial need, may cover up to 110% of fees. A Scholar can hold no more than one scholarship award.
Means tested bursaries are also available and are awarded to children whose parents can’t afford to pay the school’s fees. To apply for a bursary, you must be registered with the school first. The next step includes contacting the Registrar to request a Blue Form (bursary application form).
All Bursaries are reviewed annually and may be increased or decreased, depending on your financial circumstances. Your child’s progress, attitude and behaviour will also be taken into consideration. For more information, please refer to the school.
