Introduction
Basic information: Royal Russell School is an independent co-ed day and boarding school in the Shirley area of Croydon, South London. Patronised by Queen Elizabeth II, it occupies 100 acres of land, including spacious gardens and woods. [1]

Royal Russell School 8 Plus (8+) Admissions
In the first stage of the entry procedure, you should register your child with the school by completing an online form and paying the £100 (£150 for boarders) registration fee. The registration deadline is in October of the year preceding entry.
In the following weeks, the school will get in touch to schedule assessments and a taster day, during which your child will be observed and interviewed by a senior staff member. These typically take place in November of the year preceding entry.
Subject to your child’s successful performance in the exams and interviews, you may receive an offer of a place (in February), to be accepted with a payment of a deposit.

The Royal Russell School 8 Plus (8+) exam consists of the following assessments:
- English (essay)
- Mathematics (multiple-choice)
- Non-Verbal Reasoning (multiple-choice)
The English exam examines writing skills, including punctuation and spelling. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The Maths exam assesses problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills, including your child’s knowledge of times tables.
The Non-Verbal Reasoning exam measures the ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
