Introduction

Oxford High School is an independent day school for girls in Oxford. Founded by the Girls’ Day School Trust in 1875, it’s the city’s oldest girls’ school and it’s regularly ranked as one of the highest achieving independent schools nationally. [1]

In the Prep School, the academic provision is strong and challenging, aiming to introduce girls to a wide range of subject areas, including maths, English, science, Mandarin, MFL, Latin, music, PE, computing, humanities and RE.

Benefiting from a selection of purpose-built facilities, girls have the opportunity to explore their non-academic interests through participation in co-curricular clubs such as Ballet, Book Club, Yoga, Drama, Chess, Judo and Ceramics. There is no gender stereotyping at OHS, hence it’s perfectly acceptable and typical for girls to engage in designing robots or playing football.

In line with the motto Ad Lucem (Toward the light), Oxford High Prep provides a place for intellectual exploration and exciting educational journeys where any error is seen as opportunity for growth. Its community is home to girls who approach learning with an open heart, fearlessly and generously engaging with each other on their path towards discovering themselves and their place in the world.

The English assessment examines comprehension and writing skills, including spelling, punctuation and grammar, as well as the fluency of your child’s reading and her oral skills.

The Maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills, including her knowledge of times tables.

The Verbal Reasoning section of the exam is designed to test and assess her logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary.

The Non-Verbal Reasoning test measures her ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
