Introduction
Founded in 1907, Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School (LGGS) is a girls’ grammar school with academy status. Located on Regent Street in Lancaster, it boasts specialisms in Technology and Languages. [1]
LGGS consistently performs well in school league tables and has an excellent reputation for promoting high academic achievement while maintaining a relaxed atmosphere. Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
Year 7 admissions to Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School are determined by pupil performance in the 11+ exam. There are currently 145 places allocated to Year 7 students. In June, LGGS hosts Open Evening, allowing you and your daughter to meet the Head and learn more about the school’s admissions process.
LGGS is a popular school. In cases where there are more applicants than available Year 7 places, it uses its oversubscription criteria, giving priority to:
- Pupils who permanently live within the City of Lancaster at the time of application and are Looked After Children or previously Looked After Children
- Pupils who permanently live within the City of Lancaster at the time of application and are eligible for Pupil Premium
- Pupils who permanently live within the City of Lancaster
- All other pupils who live outside of the City of Lancaster who achieve the required standard in the admissions tests

How to Apply for Year 7 Entry to Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School
If you wish to register your daughter to sit the Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School 11+ admissions tests, you should do so by completing the online application form (found here) by the September deadline.
Please note that you must also complete your local authority’s Common Application Form (CAF) to ensure your daughter is considered for a Year 7 place at LGGS. The admissions tests are held in September, and results are communicated in October.

Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School 11+ exam consists of three tests:
– English
There are two sections to the English test – one that tests spelling, punctuation and grammar, and one that requires students to read an extract of text and then answer questions about the passage. The English paper has 56 multiple-choice questions and lasts for 45 minutes.
– Maths
The Maths test consists of 50 questions in a multiple-choice format and lasts for 50 minutes. It measures problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills, including questions on numbers, measurements, geometry, algebra and statistics.
– Verbal Reasoning
The Verbal Reasoning test has 80 multiple-choice questions and lasts 50 minutes. The paper tests logical thinking, use of the English language and vocabulary.
How to Prepare for the Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School 11 Plus (11+) Exam?

Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School does not have a cut-off score – entry is based on the strength of 11+ candidates sitting the test. The cohort is thus selected from the ranked list of applicants.
Pupils who are able to score 75-85%+ consistently in our 11+ practice tests should be on track to pass the 11+ test.
