Introduction
Dunottar School is an independent coeducational school located in Reigate, Surrey. Established in 1926, the school was recently awarded the prestigious Education Business Award in the ‘Outstanding Progress – UK Independent Schools’ category.
In Year 7, pupils at Dunottar study a broad and well-balanced curriculum, including the core subjects, separate sciences, a modern foreign language (French or Spanish), humanities, creative subjects (including design & technology), computing, food & nutrition, music, art and drama.
The vast variety of Clubs and Societies further extend pupils’ talents and abilities. They include Amnesty International, Book Club, Badminton, Art Club, Chamber Choir, Basketball, Bee-keeping Club, Dissection Club, Rock Climbing and Eco Club.
Firmly grounded in the motto Do ut Des (I give that thou may’st give), the school provides its pupils with numerous opportunities to achieve their ambitions for their future education and employment. Dunottar holds Open Days throughout the year, offering a wonderful opportunity for families to get a taste of daily life on campus. The events include a talk from the Head, a pupil-led tour of the school, attending lessons and informal meetings with staff. Individual visits can be arranged through the admissions office. Dunottar School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
To register your child, you should fill in the registration form available on the school’s website and pay the £100 fee. Upon registration, your child will be invited to the school to take part in Warrior Learner Assessments (in October), consisting of group activities and interviews.
Formal entrance assessments take place the following November. If your child performs well in the activities, interviews and academic tests, they may receive an offer of a place, to be reserved with a payment of a £1,000 deposit.
Dunottar School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
Academic Scholarships are awarded on the basis of positive school reports and exceptional performance in the entry assessment and interview. The school looks into each child’s potential and capacity to contribute to the community. Thus, scholars are expected to show real commitment to their scholarship subject(s), aim high and have a positive impact on their peer group and other pupils.
There is no application process for Academic awards. At 11+, pupils can also apply for scholarships in the areas of Art, Music, Sports and Performing Arts. For more information, please visit the school’s website.
Dunottar School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The Dunottar School entrance assessment consists of the following papers:
- English
- Mathematics
- CEM Select
The English paper examines comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation.
The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper will include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
CEM Select is an online assessment that examines your child’s skills in Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning and Numerical Reasoning.
