Introduction
Formerly known as Our Lady’s Convent School, Loughborough Amherst School is an independent, co-ed day school in Loughborough. It dates back to 1841, occupying 10 acres of grounds and Grade II listed buildings. [1]
The school’s primary focus is on improving pupils’ numeracy and literacy skills, tailoring the curriculum in a way that it meets their interests and individual learning pace. In Year 3, pupils are introduced to the Accelerated Reader programme, through which their comprehension and inference skills are nurtured and developed.
Whilst benefitting from broad and stimulating academic provision, children also have access to some of the finest music facilities in the UK. Most music lessons are offered free of charge, playing a vital role in each child’s extra-curricular enrichment.
Pupils’ horizons are further expanded during their visits to exciting places such as Warwick Castle and the Pickford House Museum, as well via annual residential trips which can include adventurous activities such as canoeing and abseiling at Beaumanor Hall.
Rated as ‘Excellent’ in all categories by the ISI, the school instills confidence, compassion and ambition in children, encouraging them to use their skills, gifts and talents to make the world a better place. Classes are never larger than 20 pupils, enabling the staff’s individualised approach towards teaching and ensuring personalised pastoral care that successfully meets pupils’ unique needs and preferences.
