Introduction
The King’s School, Canterbury, is a co-ed, independent boarding and day school in Kent. It has a feeder preparatory school, the Junior King’s School (JKS), which caters for around 400 pupils aged 3 to 13. [1]
Educating the whole person, JKS Prep offers a broad academic and non-academic provision covering the following subjects: art, classics, computing & IT, DT, drama, English, geography, history, MFL, maths, music, PE, PSHE, RS and science. The vast variety of facilities on offer firmly supports the curriculum, providing children with spacious labs, fully equipped computer suits and a performing arts centre.
Extracurricular activities further enrich school life, boosting pupils skills in the areas of coding, crafts, ballet, cookery, chess and horse riding, among others. Pupils also get to engage in outdoor learning, benefitting from the Forest School programme which aims to instil an environmental ethic and a sense of competence and independence.
Rated as ‘excellent’ by ISI, the school actively promotes a socially cohesive culture, boosting pupils’ communication skills and their sense of responsibility towards others. In line with JKS’ high expectations of behaviour and achievement, children demonstrate a strong commitment to the codes of conduct and develop an understanding of the importance of collaborative effort very early on.
