City of London School for Girls (CLSG) is an independent school for girls in Barbican, London. Founded in 1881, it boasts an excellent academic reputation and a rich range of modern facilities, including a swimming pool, drama studio, lecture theatre, all weather playing field and indoor gym with climbing wall.
The Senior School core curriculum is enhanced through engaging and interactive lessons in science, MFL, Latin, computer science and humanities, among others, boosting pupils’ cognitive development and their capacity to retain knowledge. Girls are encouraged to think for themselves, provoked to question the nature of various theoretical and social phenomena, and urged to share their opinions with confidence.
CLSG also ensures that pupils have lots of fun, balancing the often challenging in-class learning with a number of enrichment pursuits. For this purpose, the school offers a plethora of club activities, ranging from robotics, debating and chess to DofE, German film club and Pride Society.
Community service is an important element of the CLSG education, hence girls regularly partake in fundraising activities around various charitable causes, which have included Ninos de Guatemala and Street Child. Their creative and aesthetic understanding, on the other hand, is cultivated through regular trips to London’s galleries, theatres and museums, where they get to add an experiential dimension to their strong theoretical knowledge in the field of arts.
The school frequently welcomes esteemed guest speakers, whose efforts provide girls with a sense of direction which greatly benefits their future academic and non-academic endeavours. To maximise their chances for success after school, CLSG offers a broad wellbeing programme, mainly reflected through PSHCE lessons and activities, which introduces girls to their responsibilities as citizens of modern society, with all its complexities and appeal.
