City of London School for Girls 7 Plus (7+) Assessment and Interview
About 50 girls (a third) will be called back after the tests for an assessment morning. This morning is made up of fun practical activities and lessons in English, Maths and DT.
The school will be looking at how girls interact and work together, as well as the work they produce. They will be assessed in the following areas:
- interaction with other pupils and staff
- their approach to and experience of scientific enquiry through contexts taken from life processes, materials and their properties and physical properties;
- if they display an inquisitive mind and an interest in finding out why and how things happen and work
- their interest in visits and trips they have made
- their interest in and approach creative activities such as painting, sewing and cooking
Parents and girls will also have a 20-minute interview. This is an opportunity to discuss areas of strength and weakness, to ask any questions and for both parties to learn more about each other. There will also be some questions to assess how the girls think – for example, girls maybe presented with a maths puzzle, a piece of prose or a piece of artwork to discuss.
Bursaries and Scholarships: There are no scholarships or bursaries available for City of London School for Girls at 7+, but there are in later years.
Destination schools at 11+: It is assumed that all girls will stay on at CLSG.
Other Entry Points: 11+
Occasionally, places are available for non-standard entry points (ages other than Years 3, 7 or 12), and girls are sometimes admitted girls into Years 4 and 5 in the prep school, (or years 8 and 9 in the senior school). But this only happens if current girls leave and places become available.
Should a place arise in Years 4 or 5, the school follows a set procedure: all girls on the waiting list are contacted to find out if they are still interested in a place. The school then arranges for those still interested to attend a morning or afternoon of entrance assessments. Year 4 and 5 assessments involve a few short tests in English and maths and some practical activities to assess how the girls interact with other class members.
