Introduction

Wakefield Girls’ High School (WGHS) is an independent school for girls in Wakefield, established in 1878 in Wentworth House. It comprises a Senior and Junior school, also known as WGHS Junior School.

Girls benefit from inspirational teaching in the areas of English, maths, humanities, science, PE, art, PE, ICT, music and French.

Besides promoting academic excellence, the school also enables girls to cultivate their natural talents and learn new skills through participation in various clubs and activities. Furthermore, they get their first taste of independence and adventure through residential visits, taking place annually. [1]

The most recent ISI Regulatory Compliance Inspection Report concluded that WGHS Junior School is fully compliant in all inspected areas, including:

  1. Quality of education provided;
  2. Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils;
  3. Quality of leadership in and management of the school.

Dedicated to providing a happy, caring and stimulating learning atmosphere to all pupils, the school succeeds at maximising their potential while boosting their initiative. As a result, girls enter the next stage of their education driven by a spirit of enquiry and equipped with strong qualifications and a winning mindset. [2]

The WGHS Junior School 7 Plus (7+) exam consists of the following assessments:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Standardised papers which examine potential (Reasoning)

The English assessment examines comprehension skills, including inference and grammar. There will also be a writing task.

The Maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills, including her knowledge of times tables.

The Verbal Reasoning section of the standardised paper is designed to test and assess your daughter’s logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary.

The Non-Verbal Reasoning section of the standardised paper measures her ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
