St. Edmund’s College is a coeducational independent day and boarding school in Ware, Hertfordshire. The school, set in 440 acres, operates in line with the British public school tradition, and is the oldest continuously operating post-Reformation Catholic school in the UK.
In Year 7, the curriculum falls into the following categories: English, Mathematics, Science, Modern Foreign Languages and Humanities, complemented by computer science.
The school’s enrichment programme includes overseas trips, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award excursions, CCF and sports, such as Rugby, Football, Cricket, Athletics and Tennis.

St. Edmund’s College 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
After visiting the school, if you wish to apply for Year 7 entry, you should complete the online Registration Form and pay a non-refundable fee of £100. Scholarship application forms are also available on the website. Bursary application packs can be obtained from the Admissions Office.
Entry to the school depends on your child’s performance in entrance examinations, an interview with the Headmaster or Registrar and a positive current school report. An original birth certificate or passport will also be requested.
If entry criteria are met, you will receive an offer of a place, to be accepted in writing and accompanied by a £750 acceptance fee.
St. Edmund’s College 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
The Douay Academic Scholarship is awarded on the basis of performance in the entrance examination. The Old Hall Academic Scholarship, available to Catholic students who are currently in a Catholic school, is also awarded on the basis of performance in the entrance examination. The school also offers All Rounder Scholarships, Art Scholarships, Music Scholarships and Sport Scholarships.
St. Edmund’s College offers a limited number of means-tested bursaries for Year 7 applicants, covering up to 100% of the fees.
If you wish to apply for a bursary, you will be expected to complete a Confidential Statement of Financial Circumstances form and return it to the Bursar with supplementary documentation. Scholarships may be applied for in addition to a bursary. For more information, please contact the school.

The St. Edmund’s College 11+ exam consists of the following papers:
- Non-Verbal Reasoning
The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper may include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
The Non-Verbal Reasoning paper measures their ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
