Introduction

 

Rydal Penrhos School is an independent, co-educational day school in Colwyn Bay, North Wales. It was founded when Rydal School and Penrhos College came under a single Governing body in 1995. [1]

 

Pupils study English, mathematics, science, humanities, PHSE, Spanish, food & nutrition, design technology, drama, PE, art, music, computer science, Welsh and outdoor education.

 

The broad range of clubs and societies includes Amnesty International, Ballet, Fencing, Jazz Ensemble, Photography, Scientific Society and STEM.

 

Rydal Penrhos School maintains close links with Kitooha Primary School and the Development Studies Centre in southwest Uganda. It gathers money for the projects via a number of fundraising events and takes pupils on working trips to the far-off country every two years.

 

As the only independent Methodist school in Wales, Rydal Penrhos is home to an inclusive Christian community where respect for the individual is central. Pupils develop lasting values and personal independence within a safe environment, and approach challenging experiences in various domains with confidence.

Rydal Penrhos School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions

 

Entry to Year 7 is dependent upon your child’s performance in the entrance examinations and interview, as well as the quality of their current-school reference and academic report. The registration form can be accessed on this page.

 

Applications should be submitted by early January of the calendar year of entry, whilst examinations are held later in the same month. Please note that, throughout the admissions process, the following fees are payable: £100 for registration and £500 on acceptance of a place.

 

Rydal Penrhos School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries

 

At 11+, Rydal Penrhos School offers scholarships in the following areas:

 

• Academic ability 
• Art
• Drama
• Music 
• Sport 

 

Academic Scholarships are awarded on the basis of performance in the entrance examinations and interview. Therefore, separate applications are not required. 

 

The value of all scholarships is £500 per year, to be spent on your child’s development in the relevant area. The sum cannot be used for fee reduction.

 

Means-tested bursaries are also available. Awarded to pupils from low-income families, these awards cover full fees or offer partial reduction. Please note that only households with a gross annual income of less than £60,000 will be considered.
