Introduction

 

Royal Grammar School Worcester (RGS Worcester) is a coeducational school in Worcestershire. Founded around 685, it is the fifth oldest school in the country and the sixth oldest in the world.

 

Pupils study art, computing and IT, drama, English, history, Modern Foreign Languages, physical education, religious studies, textiles, classics, design technology, economics, business, geography, mathematics, music, politics and science.

 

The co-curricular programme includes a number of Societies and Clubs, such as Textiles Club, Film Maker’s Club, Astronomy Club, Book Club, Debating, Anatomy Club and Computer Coding. 

 

In line with the motto Remember the Past and Look to the Future, the school honours traditions whilst keeping track of the latest methods of teaching. RGSW aims to combine a sense of history and community with ‘state of the art’ facilities settled on spacious grounds. In this way, the school allows each child to achieve their full potential and instills personal qualities necessary for them to go on to  leading universities in the UK and abroad.

Open Events for RGS Worcester 11 Plus (11+) Entry

 

Open Days are one of the best ways to experience RGS Worcester as they include pupil-led tours of the campus. If you are unable to attend an Open Morning and you would like to visit the school on a normal working day, you can book an individual visit which includes a tour of facilities and a meeting with the Head. RGS Worcester 11 Plus (11+) Admissions

 

RGS Worcester Senior School is academically selective, assessing pupils through a formal entrance exam, an interview and references from the candidate’s current school (or a copy of their last school report). Potential, not just current ability, is looked for in the selection process.

 

Please note that registration forms should be returned to the school by the deadline in January. The registration fee of £45 is non-refundable. If your child receives an offer of a place, you should accept it on their behalf by the deadline in March. 

 

RGS Worcester 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries

 

A number of Academic, Music, Drama, Art and Sports Scholarships are available to 11+ applicants. Strongest candidates in the 11+ entrance exam are automatically considered for an Academic award.

 

Music and Drama Scholarships are awarded following an audition. Art Scholarships are awarded following an interview with the Head of Art, a submitted portfolio and the completion of a piece of work. Sports Exhibitions and Scholarships are awarded following a practical assessment day.

 

All scholarships may be supplemented by a bursary, together covering up to 100% of fees. Bursaries are awarded on the basis of financial need. They are means-tasted and subject to annual review.

 

Bursaries alone can cover up to 100% of the full school fees. Please note that your child’s performance in the entrance examinations will also be taken into consideration. For more information, please contact the Registrar.

 

RGS Worcester 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format

 

The RGS Worcester 11+ exam consists of the following papers:

 

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Verbal Reasoning 

 

The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.

 

The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper may include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.

 

The Verbal Reasoning paper is primarily designed to test and assess their logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary.
